Historical Perspective
Max India was founded in the year 1985
to engage in the business of manufacturing penicillin-based drugs, bulk
active pharmaceuticals and packaging films - a business which it continues
to operate till today.
Over the next 16 years, Max India ventured into businesses across conventional and new age sectors. The business model invariably was JVs with international leaders, including Gist Brocades, Elf Atochem, Hutchison Telecommunications, etc.
In 2000, the Company re-invented itself, moving from a B2B to a B2C company to venture into the “Business of Life” – encompassing `Protecting Life’ through Max New York Life; `Caring for Life’ through Max Healthcare; `Improving Life’ through Max Neeman; and `Enhancing Life’ through Max Bupa Health Insurance.

Chronology of Events

1982Max India Ltd. is incorporated on February 5th, 1982,with a vision to be a multi-business enterprise.

1985On January 15th, 1985, Max India commenced commercial operations. Begins production of Penicillin-based Drug Intermediates – Max India sets up India’s first plant to manufacture 6APA, a vital drug intermediate of Penicillin. This state-of-the-art plant, based on the most contemporary enzymatic technology, is also the country’s first intermediate drug manufacturing plant to receive approval from the USFDA. Located near Chandigarh, it commenced production on January 15th, 1985.
