Analjit Singh, Chairman & Managing Director - Max India Limited

Mr. Analjit Singh is the Founder & Chairman of Max India Limited, Chairman of Max New York Life Insurance Company Limited; Max Healthcare Institute Limited and Max Bupa Health Insurance Company Limited. He has been the driving force behind the Max India Group’s sustained growth and success since the mid 80’s.

A self made entrepreneur, Mr. Analjit Singh has been leading the charge of reinventing and restructuring the Max India Group with a vision to be amongst India’s most admired companies for Service Excellence.

Today, Max India Limited is a multi-business corporate, focused on People and Service-oriented Businesses of ‘Life’. Max India Group is present in the areas of Life Insurance (Protecting Life) through Max New York Life Insurance, a Joint Venture with a Fortune 100 company New York Life; Healthcare (Caring for Life) through Max Healthcare; Health Insurance (Protecting Life) through Max Bupa Health Insurance; a Joint Venture with Bupa Finance Plc U.K. Clinical Research (Improving Life) through Max Neeman Medical International; BoPP & Speciality Foils manufacturing through its division Max Speciality Films.

As one of India’s leading business-persons, Mr. Analjit Singh is a Member of the Prime Minister’s Joint Indo-US CEOs Forum. He is the non-executive Chairman of Indus Towers Ltd., India’s leading ‘Shared Telecom Infrastructure’ Services Company. He is also a Director on the board of several companies such as Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI Ltd.), Vodafone Essar, Hero Honda Motors Limited, Moser Baer Solar Plc., Tata Tea Ltd. and Dabur India Ltd. He is a member of key Industry Organizations such as CII and so on.

Mr. Analjit Singh has always taken keen interest in enhancing India’s academic excellence. He is currently an Executive Board Member of the Board of Governors, Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, where he is facilitating and jointly funding a new campus at Mohali, Punjab. In addition he is the Chairman, Board of Governors, The Doon School, Dehradun and Member, Board of Management, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

Mr. Analjit Singh is actively involved in social service, through his role as the Chairman and Chief Patron of Max India Foundation (MIF), the Social Service arm of Max India Group. Committed to fostering an inclusive society, MIF spearheads the CSR initiatives of the various Max India Group companies and also partners with several reputable NGOs such as SOS Children’s Village, Manav Seva Sannidhi, CanSupport and Chinmaya Mission. The Foundation’s main focus areas are:


  • Providing improved access to quality healthcare for underprivileged, particularly children.

  • Creating awareness on health-related issues such as women’s health, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and immunisation of children.

  • Improving awareness of environmental issues with a view to supporting a sustainable and eco-friendly environment.

He is also the Life Chairman, Bhai Mohan Singh Foundation and Member, Governing Board of Bharti Foundation.

Mr. Analjit Singh is the Consul General (Honorary) of the Republic of San Marino in India.

Senator Hillary Clinton, on behalf of The Indian American Center for Political Awareness (IACPA), awarded Mr. Analjit Singh for his ‘outstanding achievement’ in presenting the international community with an understanding of a modern and vibrant India. The IACPA has particularly lauded his efforts in forging several successful Joint Ventures with leading American companies and promoting business ties with the US.

Mr. Analjit Singh is an alumnus of Doon School, Dehradun; Shriram College of Commerce, University of Delhi; School of Management and the Graduate School of Management, Boston University, Boston, USA. He is married and has three children.

Anuroop (Tony) Singh, Vice Chairman  - Max India Limited

Anuroop (Tony) Singh is an experienced business leader and an independent member on the Board of several leading companies. He has more than three decades of experience in the financial services sector, including two decades as a Chief Executive for various businesses. Anuroop’s experience of setting up new businesses from inception and turning around existing businesses, together with his ability to converge business and social dimensions, make him an ideal independent voice on the Boards of quality-oriented and socially-responsible organizations. His emphasis on principles and core values-based operations has helped build many successful organizations. Anuroop also mentors young start up entrepreneurs has a keen interest in
philanthropy.

Anuroop is currently pursuing Board level engagements with select professionally-managed, values-driven corporate entities and not-for-profit organizations which aim to leverage the full potential of an active and professional Board.

In the IT sector, Anuroop serves as a member on the Board of Directors of Perot Systems (www.perotsystems.com), a Fortune 1000 company headquartered in Plano, Texas with more than 23,000 associates located in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. Perot Systems recorded revenue of $2.8 billion in 2008. The company is a global provider of Information Technology based innovative custom business solutions and capabilities, enabling clients to accelerate growth, streamline operations, and create new levels of customer value.

In the Healthcare sector, he is:

  • The Vice Chairman of Max Bupa Ltd. (www.maxbupa.com), a health insurance JV between Max India and Bupa Group, UK.
  • A member of the Board of Directors of Max Healthcare (www.maxhealthcare.com), a comprehensive provider of standardized, integrated, and world-class healthcare services. It operates an 800 bed network of 8 hospitals in North India, offering services in over 30 medical disciplines.
  • In the not-for-profit space, Anuroop serves as a member on the Board of Directors of:
  • SOS Children's Villages of India (www.soscvindia.org), a voluntary child-care organization providing care through 40Children’s Villages and122 allied projects including Kindergartens, Schools, and Social, Medical & Vocational Training Centers spread across India, reaching out to thousands of children. It is a member of the worldwide SOS family with a footprint in 132 countries.
  • Society for Integrated Development of Himalayas (SIDH) (www.sidhsri.com), a NGO committed to providing meaningful, relevant, and holistic education to all sections of society through pre-primary, primary, non-formal, and adult literacy programs. SIDH has linked education to livelihood through its Rural Management School.

Prior to his present Board assignments, Anuroop was CEO and Managing Director of Max New York Life Insurance Company. He launched and established Max New York Life’s operations in India in 2000. Under his stewardship, the company established a market reputation for trust, quality, and customer-centricity.

Earlier, Anuroop was Country Head, India and Regional Head, Retail Banking, Middle East and South Asia, for ANZ Grindlays Bank, where he implemented new revenue-led business strategy and significantly turned around the Bank's overall performance.

Anuroop also served as the Country General Manager for Retail Banking at Bank of America for five years. He spearheaded the launch of the Bank’s Retail Banking business in India with several paradigm shifting products and services.

Anuroop worked for 15 years in various positions with American Express, establishing the Company in several countries in the region. His work in launching new products and services in regional markets, including the signature American Express Card, earned him the ‘Chairman's Award for Quality’ in 1994. He also inspired the creation of the Finance Resource Center (FRC) – the country’s first Business Processes Outsourcing organization, which is now a living example of successful strategic reengineering.

Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1976, Anuroop did his articleship from A.F. Ferguson and Co. He also worked overseas, with Ernst & Young.

Anuroop graduated from Delhi University in 1973 and studied at the Doon School, Dehradun. He is married to Catherine Morice Singh, a professor of Mathematics who holds a keen interest in Indian Culture and history of Indian Mathematics. They have two daughters, Priyanka Singh, 25, a documentary photographer and Divya Singh, 22, studying Finance and Accounting at Dauphine University in Paris. Anuroop himself spends his time across India, Europe, and America.

Mohit Talwar, Director-Corporate Development
Max India Limited

Mohit’s key responsibility at Max India is to enhance the profitability of existing businesses as well as work on opportunities in new business areas. His other responsibilities include providing leadership in the areas of structuring and setting-up of new businesses and improving shareholder governance of existing businesses. Mohit is directly involved in areas such as Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions and investor relations, including capital raising. He has been closely interfacing with Banks, FIIs and private equity players. Mohit is spearheading the setting up of Max Bupa Health Insurance, the health insurance joint-venture of Max India with Bupa group, UK. He is also responsible for managing external relationships with the financial community and stakeholders, both national and international. He works closely with Analjit Singh, Chairman, Max India Group, on issues ranging from business evaluation and analysis to strategic planning. He joined Max India in November 2007. Prior to this, Mohit spent around 6 years in The Oberoi hotels and around 22 years in the banking Sector working with Bank of Nova Scotia, Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank in the area of Wholesale Banking. He is a Post Graduate from St Stephen’s college and is also a Post Graduate in Hospitality Management from Oberoi School of Management.

 
     

Sujatha Ratnam, Chief Financial Controller -  Max India Limited

Ms. Sujatha Ratnam is the Chief Financial Controller of Max India Limited and is responsible for Treasury, Finance, Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounts, Taxation, CARM and Information Technology. Sujatha, aged 45 years, joined the Company on July 12, 2004. She holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of Fund Raising, Financial Restructuring and Financial Planning & Analysis. Prior to joining Max India, she was working with Jubilant Organosys Ltd. as the General Manager- Finance. She started her corporate career with Tata Motors Limited in the year 1989.
